Let me introduce myself, I am Mrs. Vejar-Olwert. I have been teaching at Kenston since 1998. Although I started by teaching Art I & II at the high school, I’ve called the middle school home since 2002. I teach 6th-8th grade Art at KMS.  I received my BA in Art Education K-12 from Kent State and my MA in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in “technology integration” from the University of Phoenix. Parents can help me get to know their student by filling out the parent surveys. These can be found on the grade-level pages on the menu bar or by following these links:

There’s a few things you need to know about my art classes. You will find a link to a presentation on the things you need to know, below.

Many students and parents are surprised to find that middle school art classes include homework, quizzes, an online portfolio, and even tests. We use Google classroom for homework assignments, helpful instructional videos, online classroom discussions, reminders, and links to study guides. On the second day of the class, we have students subscribe to Google classrooms, create Google folders for photos, and subscribe to REMIND.

I use an online service, available to educators, called REMIND. It allows me to send text messages to students and parents via a secure, private web service. My reminders may be about due dates, quizzes, etc. Many teachers and coaches across the country use this free service. I have been using it for 5 years or more with great success. Every grade-level art class will have a different subscription code given at the start of each quarter/semester. If your child does not own a phone, you can subscribe for him/her and receive the reminders I send out.  If you’d like to learn more about the free service click on the link below. There are additional links and resources on each classroom page.
